History cannot be changed, but what has been agreed by bilateral agreements should be respected and all those whose property was confiscated are entitled to compensation or restitution, Croatian President Ivo Josipovic said in Zagreb on Thursday after talks with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano.

Asked by reporters what Italy could expect from the Croatian government's decision to make it possible for people not covered by the Osimo and Rome agreements to be entitled to compensation for property confiscated during the Yugoslav Communist regime, Josipovic said that "Italian and other citizens that are not covered by the Osimo Accords are entitled to property restitution and there will be no discrimination, as confirmed by a decision of the Croatian Constitutional Court," Josipovic said at a joint news conference with Napolitano.

"It is important for our democracy and our economy and ethic organisation of our society to compensate all whose property was confiscated," the Croatian president said.
