Commenting on opinion polls which give the Opposition coalition a considerable lead over the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Social Democratic Party (SDP) president Zoran Milanovic said on Friday nothing was over yet, calling on citizens to go to the polls and assume responsibility for changes in the country.

He called on the citizens to go to the polls, think carefully and choose. "The election is not over, it hasn't even started yet," Milanovic told reporters after touring the Pivac meat industry in the Dalmatian hinterland.

Asked about the financing of his election campaign, namely how much the coalition plans to spend, Milanovic said the financing would be in line with the law. He said it was possible that the coalition would spend even less than stipulated by the law.

Asked to comment on Serbia's announcement that the best way to resolve the problem relating to their mutual genocide lawsuits would be for the two governments to withdraw the suits, Milanovic said that certain elements for Croatia's suit were solid while others were not. It is important to us to succeed with the lawsuit and not to spend the next 20 years in litigation and that is why we will have to talk to Serbia as a partner, he said.
