Representatives of the opposition parties in the Croatian Parliament on Friday criticised Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic for applying double standards, saying that he tolerated far more worse things to First Deputy Prime Minister Radimir Cacic when it came to appointments according to political party affiliation than he did to former Environment Minister Mirela Holy whom he replaced.

Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) president Tomislav Karamarko told reporters in parliament he was not surprised by the continuation of the practice the government had with Holy.

He criticised the government for firing hundreds of HDZ members and other professionals so that it could hire those politically more favourable.

Karamarko stressed he was not surprised by Cacic's actions, but by Milanovic who tolerates that.

Dinko Buric of the regional HDSSB party said that by tolerating Cacic's behaviour, Milanovic showed his lack of credibility.

The media on Thursday carried a statement by former assistant in the Environment Ministry Davor Skrlec that Cacic had asked him to hire a member of his party in the Environment Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund.

Milanovic said yesterday he he knew nothing about Cacic's appointments according to political party affiliation, adding that he would voice his opinion as soon as he was acquainted with details.

Cacic dismissed Skrlec's claims saying it was a lie.
