President Ivo Josipovic on Monday condemned the latest slurs and violence against Croatian Serbs, saying it was high time to say "no" to those inciting inter-ethnic hatred.
"There are some who would provoke inter-ethnic conflicts, even physical violence. One should clearly tell them 'no' and preserve our constitutional principles," he told reporters.
He said civil and national equality were some of the fundamental constitutional principles of Croatia, which he said belonged to all citizens, regardless of nationality, religion or ethnicity.
"It is high time for the message that all our citizens have a home in Croatia. Guests are tourists and business people coming to Croatia, and all citizens are equal community members."
The president said his message was especially geared for politicians, the media and people in sports, stressing that security "is the foundation of our state."
