Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusic and Danish Ambassador Bo Eric Weber said in Zagreb on Sunday they were very pleased with the early results of a referendum in which 67.06 per cent of Croatians said 'yes' to European Union accession.
"This is a fantastic result, serious and very binding," said Pusic, who waited for the first results in the parliament building together with Weber and the head of the EU Delegation to Croatia, Paul Vandoren.
Asked if the job was now over, Pusic said, "Our journey has begun."
This is an excellent result both for Croatia and for the EU and we are looking forward to Croatia becoming the EU's 28th member in 2013. We are sure that Croatia will be an important EU member. Everyone should be happy. You, too, should be happy, Weber told the press.
He said Croatian citizens had made the right decision.
Denmark is the EU president in the first half of this year.
