Administration Minister Arsen Bauk told the press on Monday a register of public and government employees should be fully functional by the end of 2013.
Commenting on media claims that 60,000 people were employed in the state and public administration in five years, Bauk said he believed the increase was a little smaller.
He said the problem was that there was a lack of 150,000 workers in the real sector and a surplus of about 10,000 in the state administration and public services, but added that he would wait for the final number to be able to make a clean start.
His predecessor, Davorin Mlakar, said the previous government reduced employment in the state administration by 3.5 per cent in two and a half years, while employment in the public administration was a little lower than in 2009. "Employment didn't go up in either of those segments," he told the press.
