The Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has sentenced Croatian doctor Ognjen Simic to two and a half years in prison for taking bribes, Simic's lawyer Nikica Grzic confirmed to press in Sarajevo on Wednesday.

The Supreme Court fully upheld the December 2010 ruling of the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo, which also bans Simic from practising medicine for five years after the serving of the prison sentence.

In 2008, the County Court in the northern Croatian Adriatic city of Rijeka found Simic guilty of corruption and sentenced him to nine years' imprisonment. A year later, the Croatian Supreme Court reduced the sentence to five years. Simic, who has dual Croatian and Bosnian citizenship, avoided serving his sentence by fleeing to neighbouring Bosnia.
