The possibility of the trial of Croatian People's Party (HNS) leader Radimir Cacic beginning during the election campaign is putting a strain on the opposition coalition, the strongest opposition party, the Social Democrats (SDP), said at a press conference on Thursday.
When asked whether the trial could upset relations within the opposition coalition, SDP member of Parliament Ingrid Anticevic Marinovic said: "It certainly puts a strain on our relations."
Cacic has charged by prosecutors in neighbouring Hungary with causing a car accident in Hungary in early 2010 in which two people were fatally injured.
Anticevic Marinovic recalled that Cacic himself had said that if found guilty he would withdraw from politics.
Frano Matusic of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) said that his party had expected that Cacic would have withdrawn after causing the fatal accident.
