President Ivo Josipovic said on Sunday the recent conflict between the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Croatian People's Party (HNS) was an indicator of a serious government crisis but hoped it would be solved appropriately.
Asked if he thought that HNS president Radimir Cacic was behind the conflict because of a real estate tax, as claimed by the SDP, Josipovic told Croatian Television, "We can only guess someone's influence."
Cacic recently resigned as first deputy prime minister and economy minister after a Hungarian court convicted him of causing a car crash with two fatalities.
"We know the formal consequences of the ruling. Mr. Cacic left the government and I can only guess if he is active in politics... behind the scenes. It wouldn't be good if anyone was active in politics behind the scenes because politics must be transparent, both towards citizens and towards other participants in the political process," Josipovic said.
