The Serbian government at its extraordinary session on Monday adopted an agreement on principles regulating the normalisation of relations with Pristina, initialled last week in Brussels.
Prime Minister Ivica Dacic has already informed the European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Catherine Ashdown, about his government's decision.
The government ordered ministries, government special organisations and services to take the necessary measures to facilitate the implementation of the agreement and to continue implementing the existing agreements reached with representatives of Kosovo, the Serbian government's public relations office said in a statement.
The Agreement is yet to be endorsed by the Serbian parliament which is expected to discuss the document on Wednesday or Thursday at the latest.
The agreement was supported on Sunday by all parties of the ruling coalition. The document has been criticised the most by the Democratic party of Serbia (DSS), led by former PM Vojislav Kostunica.
Today's extraordinary session was not open to the public, nor did cabinet members address reporters.
The European Union Council of Ministers is in session today and Belgrade expects to be given a date to start membership talks with the European Union.
