The 59th edition of the Split Summer Festival began on Sunday evening with the performance of "The Mariner's Return", an operetta by Austrian composer Franz von Suppe at Peristil Square.
The festival was officially inaugurated by Croatian President Ivo Josipovic, under whose auspices the 32-day festival will be held.
As many as 38 operas, plays, concerts, dance performances and other events will take place at 14 outdoor venues during next 32 days.
