The federation of county branches of disabled war veterans' associations and 13 Homeland War associations have proposed that Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor be awarded a high state decoration for her contribution to Croatia's international reputation and development of relations with other countries and nations.

The proposal, to be forwarded to President Ivo Josipovic, was read out by the chairman of the Main Board of the national Association of Disabled Homeland War Veterans (HVIDRA), Josip Perisa, at a news conference in Zagreb on Monday.

Perisa said that PM Kosor had given a great contribution to Croatia's EU entry, the unblocking of its membership talks and their successful completion, and that she had assumed leadership in the fight against corruption and organised crime.

Kosor is an honorary president of HVIDRA.

Asked if the proposal did not constitute interference in the election campaign, Perisa said that as an association of citizens and war veterans, HVIDRA had the right to put it forward. "We believe that PM Kosor has given an immeasurable contribution to dealing with problems regarding the living standards of Homeland War victims and veterans," said Perisa.
