Nearly all respondents polled by the MojPosao job search website, or 95%, admitted that they spent some of their working time doing things unrelated to their work.

Most said they spent some of their time at work surfing the Internet (85%), socialising with their colleagues (57%) or exchanging private text or email messages (48%). A third made private phone calls, while a fifth did their personal business outside the office.

Most of the respondents, 30%, said they spent 45 minutes daily on activities unrelated to their work; 26% said they spent one to two hours on such activities, while 11% did so only 15 minutes.

Citing reasons for such behaviour, 77% of those polled said they needed an occasional rest from their work duties, 31% said they were bored at work, while 21% said this was their way of taking their revenge on their employers for paying them low wages.

A fairly large percentage of those interviewed, 48%, said that their activities unrelated to work did not affect their productivity, 47% said they did improve their productivity, while only 5% thought the opposite.

A majority of respondents, or 67%, managed to stay unnoticed in their activities, while 33% were caught. Of those caught, 80% did not suffer any consequences, 4% had their pay reduced and 16% received a verbal warning.
