The Croatian Bishops Conference (HBK) on Thursday called on Catholic believers throughout Croatia to declare themselves as Croats and Catholics during the forthcoming population census.
The dignitaries say that the believers' "thoughtful and responsible" participation in the census should counter various recent attempts to create a different picture of the Croatian society.
The findings of the census are not only statistical data but also foundations for making different political, economic and other societies important for the time to come.
"They will impact not only the life of this generation but also the life of children and young people we care for," the bishops said.
The census will be held in April
