Austria's former chancellor and the last head of the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe, Erhard Busek, has said in an interview with the latest issue of Novi Magazin paper that Serbia should put forward a proposal to change the Kosovo border and that this would be the best solution for both sides.
In the interview with the Belgrade weekly, Busek said that he was aware that proposals for changing the borders in Kosovo was not received well by the United States and most EU countries.
Brussels and Washington say that borders cannot be changed, but if Pristina and Belgrade reach agreement to that effect, they would agree to it, said Busek.
He added that such a solution could only be the result of direct talks between the two sides, underlining the importance of arriving at a solution through mutual understanding and a process of reconciliation which, he said, would definitely be difficult but was necessary.
Speaking of Serbia, Busek said that it could prosper economically and socially only as part of Europe.
Busek is currently the coordinator of the Southeast European Cooperation Initiative (SECI) and president of the Institute for Danube Region and Central Europe.
