Croatia's Ministry of Construction and Physical Planning on Tuesday began a campaign of demolition of illegal structures, with pulling down unlawfully built structures on the island of Vir near the Adriatic city of Zadar.
According to a press release issued by the ministry, 10 illegal buildings are to be demolished on Vir in a week's time.
During the drive of the demolition of illegal buildings, structures built at sites where no construction is allowed and those structures for which their proprietors failed to request legalisation will be first on the list for removal.
During 2012, a total of 466 structures were demolished, in accordance with the decisions from the ministry.
Last year, Croatia passed a new Act on Illegal Building.
