The Croatian Parliament's Credentials and Privileges Commission on Monday unanimously and without a debate confirmed the termination of the mandate of HDSSB deputy Branimir Glavas, who has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for war crimes committed in Osijek in 1991.
The verdict against Glavas is final.
Commission chairman Damir Sesvecan of the Croatian Democratic Union said that Glavas's mandate was terminated in accordance with the law, after the Supreme Court on June 2 upheld the Zagreb County Court ruling of May 2009, according to which Glavas is guilty of war crimes committed in Osijek in 1991.
Sesvecan said Glavas's term ended the day the verdict against him became final, adding that a report about this would be submitted to parliament.
Asked about Glavas's privileges as member of parliament, Sesvecan said this was not in the jurisdiction of the Commission, stressing that other parliamentary bodies would decide that.
Six members of the nine-member commission were present at today's session. A committee member of Glavas's regional HDSSB party, Ivan Drmic, did not attend.
HDSSB parliamentary club's secretary, Aleksandar Vukobrat, told reporters after the session that Drmic was not informed about the meeting on time which is why he did not attend.
