The managing director of Split's construction company Konstruktor, Zeljko Zderic, does not rule out the possibility of the Croatian company becoming involved in the construction of the 170-km-long motorway Bar-Boljari across Montenegro, although Konstruktor's previous construction offer failed.
"There is a chance of Konstruktor being engaged in the construction of the motorway in Montenegro," Zderic said on Wednesday evening commenting on announcements that Konstruktor might be involved in the construction, which would be financed by China.
Radio Deutsche Welle said the Chinese had announced that they might finance the construction of the motorway and that Croatia's largest construction company might be hired as the contractor. The station added that the Chinese might form a consortium with the Croats which would enjoy strong support from the Croatian government and that, given that the project is worth about EUR 3 billion, it would be of outstanding importance to the ailing Konstruktor.
Montenegrin Transport Minister Andrija Lompar told the Podgorica-based daily Pobjeda today that his government on Tuesday sent an official invitation to the Chinese company Poly Technologies to launch negotiations on the construction of the motorway from Bar to the border with Serbia.
According to Lompar, Montenegro's "deal of the century" was expected to be launched on the basis of a treaty, to be adopted by the two countries' parliaments, clearly specifying obligations.
