At least two persons were injured in an assault by about 50 masked young men on fans of the Croatian handball team after a Croatia-France game in Novi Sad, Serbia on Tuesday night.
Some of the Croatian fans have been hospitalised, Vojvodina Radio Television (RTV) said, adding that the assault was very well organised.
One of the injured Croats, Renata Bicanic, told RTV the attackers were masked and threw stones, one of which hit her in the neck.
RTV said seven Croatian cars were damaged, including one with an axe.
Beta news agency said about 15 Croatian vehicles were damaged around Novi Sad, quoting a police spokesperson as saying that six people were arrested.
Croatian fans supporting the national handball team were first attacked on Sunday, when two were lightly injured.
Serbian Police Director Milorad Veljovic last night apologised to the attacked Croatian fans, confirming that six people were arrested for assaulting them in Novi Sad and Ruma after the Croatia-France game.
He told Tanjug news agency the other attackers were being identified and that members of the Croatian police staying in Serbia during the European handball championships were involved in the investigation.
