Croatians are voting in local elections on Sunday to choose mayors, heads of municipalities and counties, and members of local and regional councils -- 9,576 office holders in all -- for a term of four years. A total of 3,758,638 people are eligible to vote.
Residents of Zagreb will elect a mayor and members of the City Council, neighbourhood councils and local committees.
In counties where ethnic minorities account for more than five per cent of the local population, and in municipalities and towns where they have more than 15 per cent, the minorities will also choose deputies to local leaders from among their ranks. Minority deputies will be elected in 61 constituencies, while Croatian deputies will be elected in 14 constituencies.
Polling stations open at 7am and close at 7pm. The State Electoral Commission will report on voter turnout twice during the day, at 11am and 4pm.
