The Prime Ministers of Serbia and Kosovo, Ivica Dacic and Hashim Thaci, met in Brussels on Wednesday for a new round of talks mediated by the European Union Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, and the main topic discussed was preparations for local elections in Kosovo, scheduled for November 3.

The two prime ministers have agreed that everything should be done to ensure a high turnout at the elections. The work on the implementation of the agreement on normalisation of relations will continue with the same intensity in the coming weeks, so we have maintained a good pace so far, Ashton said after the meeting.

Thaci said that good progress had been made concerning the organisation of local elections in Kosovo with a view to ensuring that as many Serbs as possible turned out for the vote. He said they had come closer to an agreement on telecommunications and energy, but that a few more details needed to be clarified before a final agreement was reached.

Dacic said that Serbs would be able to vote using the personal documents they now had, and that the election commission would include representatives of Kosovo Serbs as well.

The next meeting was set for August 27.
