Almost 33 per cent of eligible voters in Croatia cast their ballots by 4 pm at the local election, the State Election Committee (DIP) reported.
This is almost the same number that turned out to the polls four years ago, DIP President Branko Hrvatin said.
As many as 1,184,813 voters cast their votes today while four years ago 1,172,280 voters had voted. The best turnout so far has been in Lika-Senj County (39.40%) with the poorest turnout recorded in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County (29.36%).
Hrvatin said that the election was running smoothly and that there had not been any major irregularities reported.
Citizens reported two separate cases where candidates allegedly offered money if voters photographed their vote for them.
GONG, a nongovernmental organisation in charge of monitoring election processes in Croatia, reported earlier today that it had received an increasing number of complaints about irregularities in the election process.
