The visiting Serbian foreign minister Vuk Jeremic and the Bosnian Serb entity's president Milorad Dodik on Thursday held talks in Banja Luka at which Jeremic requested the Bosnian Serb leader to use his influence in Bosnia and Herzegovina so that Bosnia's representative in the United Nations Security Council would support Belgrade's position on the developments in the Kosovo.

Pledging his support, Dodik told a news conference that the Serb entity would never allow Bosnia and Herzegovina to recognise the independence of Kosovo and in that sense he would try to influence a stand which the Bosnian representative would take at the forthcoming session of the Security Council regarding the Kosovo issue.

I am absolutely committed to the protection of the Serbian state and national interests, Dodik said accusing the international community of fragmenting and humiliating Serbia.

Jeremic said that messages of German Chancellor Angela Merkel about Kosovo's status and preconditions for Serbia's progress on the road towards the European Union would have "strategic consequences for the Balkan region".

Jeremic said he was intending to participate in the UN Security Council's session on Monday with Kosovo as one of the items on its agenda. The Serbian minister said that Serbia would request the condemnation of unilateral use of force at that session.

Bosnia is currently a nonpermanent member of the UN Security Council.

Dodik accused Merkel of "unfair" statements she made during her visit to Belgrade on Tuesday.
