The Zagreb municipal office of the Chief State Prosecutor (DORH) has turned down criminal charges pressed against Serb People's Council (SNV) President Milorad Pupovac and another two officials of this body representing ethnic Serbs, who were accused of a HRK 2.19-million fraud from the council.
The opinion of a court accounting expert and an audit report from the Finance Ministry show that 2.19 million kunas have not "disappeared" from the council, as stated in the criminal charges.
According to media, the charges were pressed against Pupovac, Sasa Milosevic and Rade Dragojevic, by some SNV members who accused Pupovac and the other two men of embezzlement and negligence.
Those who pressed charges said that the SNV financial report for 2008 failed to present the entire income of the council and that 2.19 million "disappeared" from the SNV revenues sheet.
The DORH municipal office established that that sum was on the council's giro account, according to a press release on the DORH web site.
The DORH has not revealed the names of the accused men and only gave their initials.
