The European Commission on Wednesday recommended the opening of the EU accession talks with Montenegro, after it assessed that the country had made progress in the rule of law, the fights against corruption and organised crime and achieved the necessary "level of adjustment" with European standards.
The Commission adopted the Progress Report on reform implementation in Montenegro and the final decision on launching the accession talks will be made heads of state and government of the EU member countries in June.
The European Council last December entrusted the Commission to assess Montenegro progress i reform implementation, with an emphasis on the rile of law, fundamental rights, fight against corruption and organised crime.
