Former Deputy Prime Minister Radimir Cacic, who began serving a sentence at Zagreb's Remetinec prison on 17 June for causing a traffic accident in Hungary in 2010 in which two people were killed, has been transferred to the low-security prison Valtura in Pula, his lawyer Rajko Mlinaric said on Wednesday.
"This could be expected as traffic offenders serve their terms either in Valtura or in Lipovica (prison)," Mlinaric told the press.
In early May, the Supreme Court rejected Cacic's appeal to a Zagreb County Court ruling sentencing him to 22 months' imprisonment in accordance with a Hungarian court ruling. He was served with a court order to serve his prison term on June 4. Cacic is to serve at least 11 months before he can apply for early release.
