Mirela Holy, an independent member of the Croatian parliament who recently left the ruling Social Democratic Party (SDP), has announced her plans to set up a new political party to focus on sustainable economic development, human rights and environmental protection.
Holy confirmed that she had prepared draft documents for the agenda and statute of that future political party.
"In early September, I am travelling to Brussels as a guest of the European Green Party," Holy told the media.
She said that the new party would probably begin operating this autumn.
Holy left the SDP this summer after that party turned down her proposal to establish an integrated national agency for national parks. She insists that in that way, the ruling coalition failed to fulfill its promises from the pre-election Agenda 21.
Holy was Environment Minister in the first half of 2012 but resigned after it was revealed that she had sent an e-mail to the chairman of the board of the national rail company not to fire a secretary.
