Croatia's number one biathlete Jakov Fak, who won bronze medals at the Biathlon World Championships 2009 and the 2010 Winter Olympics, has requested that he be removed from membership of the Croatian Biathlon Federation.
The president of the Croatian Olympic Committee, Zlatko Matesa, has confirmed this information, but declined to comment on speculations that Fak had accepted Slovenian citizenship, and will now on represent Slovenia.
Fak was born in the northern Adriatic city of Rijeka in 1987.
Fak won for Croatia its first-ever World Champions medal in biathlon.
