Green Action activists gathered outside the government head office in Zagreb on Wednesday to protest against the planned construction of a new block for the Plomin coal-fired thermal power plant in Istria.
Protesters said that the plan would prevent the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, which Croatia would have to do once it joined the European Union.
Protest leader Toni Vidan told reporters that they had sent a letter to the government on February 27 requesting its official position on the construction project, especially the selection of fuel and technology. "Since the government has not declared its position to date, we decided to hold a protest rally and urge it finally state its position," he said.
