The Croatian Parliament on Wednesday upheld a decision of its Credentials and Privileges Commission to approve the prosecution of Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) MP Petar Cobankovic, with only Nevenka Becic of the regional HGS party voting against.

Cobankovic was stripped of immunity from prosecution in the Planinska corruption case.

He is charged with abusing his former ministerial position by enabling former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and former HDZ deputy Stjepan Fiolic to acquire illegal gain by defrauding the state budget of nearly HRK 38 million in the sale of a building in Zagreb's Planinska Street.

The State Prosecutor's Office argues that Sanader made HRK 17.3 million and Fiolic's companies nearly HRK 8 million from the sale of the building, whose value was inflated, to the ministry of regional development, which was headed by Cobankovic.
