A total of 11,736 construction permits were issued in Croatia in 2009, which is 4.4 percent down from 2008, the State Bureau of Statistics said on Tuesday.
In December 2009 alone, 1,093 permits were issued, a 31.5 percent decrease in relation to December 2008.
Eighty-eight percent (10,317) of construction permits issued in 2009 referred to apartment buildings, while the remaining 1,419 permits (12 percent) referred to other units.
The total value of work covered by construction permits issued last year was HRK 32.2 billion, 22.2 percent down from 2008.
According to the type of construction, last year most construction permits, 9,353, referred to new units, which had a share of 83.4 percent in the total value of construction work, amounting to HRK 26.9 billion.
Building permits issued in 2009 envisage the construction of 17,018 apartments, which is a 30.8 percent decrease in comparison to 2008.
Building permits issued in December envisage the construction of 2,021 flats with an average area of 86.6 square metres, down by as much as 60.5 percent from December 2008.
