January sees higher exports, export-import ratio

An increase in exports and a decrease in imports have raised Croatia's export-import ratio from 49.7 per cent in January 2009 to 61.7 per cent in January 2010, the Central Bureau of Statistics said on Friday.

Expressed in the domestic currency, exports this January were HRK 4.31 billion, up 13.5 per cent on the year, while imports stood at HRK 6.98 billion, down 8.7 per cent from January 2009.

The foreign trade deficit in January was HRK 2.67 billion, down 30.7 per cent from January 2009.

Expressed in euros, January's exports amounted to 591.6 million, up 14.7 per cent on the year, while imports were 958.2 million, down 7.7 per cent from January 2009.

The foreign trade deficit this January was EUR 366.6 million, down nearly 30 per cent on the year.
