The president of the United Nations General Assembly, Vuk Jeremic, has scheduled a public debate in the UN General Assembly for 10 April 2013, on the role of international criminal tribunals in achieving justice and reconciliation among peoples, saying that the acquittal of two Croatian generals caused "a blow to the reputation of the UN," Belgrade-based news agencies and electronic media reported on Monday.

"The ICTY Appeals Chamber's decision concerning Operation Storm has caused bitterness in many parts of the world. It is indisputable that about one quarter of a million Serbs has been forced to leave their homes in a matter of days and that the tribunal, set up to investigate these crimes, had practically decided that nobody is responsible for this. This could lead to a conclusion that no crimes were committed, which is contrary to the reality," Jeremic, a former Serbian foreign minister, said in a statement which was carried by the media in Belgrade.
