Croatian President Ivo Josipovic is taking part in the Africa-EU Summit which began in Tripoli on Monday, Josipovic's office said in a press release.

Attending the two-day event are representatives of the African Union and European Union member countries, including Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

The name of the summit is "Investment, Economic Growth and Job Creation" and Croatia, an EU membership candidate, is attending as an observer.

Among the topics are African development goals, bilateral trade, and illegal immigrants in Europe.

In a brief statement to the press, Josipovic said Croatia fully shared the EU's interest in the African continent, which he added was undergoing accelerated development and had become very interesting economically.

On the fringes of the summit, Josipovic unofficially met many European and African statesmen in attendance.

On Tuesday, he is scheduled to meet representatives of Croatian companies operating in Libya.
