Commenting on Russian gas company Gazprom's decision that a section of the South Stream gas pipeline would not go through Croatia but Hungary, Croatian President Ivo Josipovic said on Saturday that he was sorry Croatia had not strengthened its economic ties with Russia and that it was time Croatia asked itself where it had gone wrong.

"In recent years we had a wrong and poor position in relation to Russian investors a number of times, so this is certainly the price we are paying," Josipovic told reporters.

He would not comment on what he expected of a decision the Hague war crimes tribunal's appeals chamber will hand down in the case of Croatian generals Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac on November 16, briefly saying: "I wouldn't speculate. We'll be patient and hear the Hague tribunal's decision."
