Croatian President Ivo Josipovic has said that he apologised to Serb victims during a visit to Paulin Dvor on Thursday, dismissing reports by some Serbian media that he did not apologise.
After attending a ceremony marking the Day of the Zagreb Faculty of Political Sciences on Friday, Josipovic was asked to comment on media reports saying that unlike Serbian President Boris Tadic, he did not apologise to the victims.
"I think they were not listening well. Watch the footage again," Josipovic said, adding that facts were being distorted by some of the media which for some reason refused the policy of reconciliation.
Until yesterday, those media reported that there could be no reconciliation until Tadic visited Vukovar, and now they wonder what he was doing there and why he came, Josipovic said.
"I am glad that such media were nevertheless in the minority."
Josipovic described Tadic's visits to Vukovar and Paulin Dvor as very successful, saying that Croatia deserved to have good neighbours and that its neighbours deserved to have a good neighbour in Croatia.
Asked to comment on the growing Euroskepticism in Croatia, the president said that all relevant political players had the duty to prepare citizens for the future in Europe.
"Most relevant political parties have incorporated into their platforms Croatia's European future, and it is up to them to keep their promise," said Josipovic.
