A ruling in the trial of Edi Misic (29) from Split charged with the murder of Mexican tourist Selene Graciano Macedo (31) in August last year is expected to be handed down on Thursday, after the prosecution asked for the maximum penalty of 40 years in prison while Misic's defence believes he should be acquitted or that charges against him should be milder.
The non-final verdict is scheduled to be delivered at 1300 hours by the Split County Court.
Evidence showed that Macedo died a violent death. Although all evidence point to him, Misic pleaded not guilty to charges of murder of Macedo on 22 August 2012 on Marjan Hill overlooking Split.
The victim's brother Emmanuel, who was present in court today, told reporters he agreed with everything the prosecution said, adding that his sister was brutally murdered, and that a 40-year prison term was an adequate punishment.
