Asked to comment on the arrest of former Customs Administration head Mladen Barisic, Croatian Transport and Infrastructure Minister Bozidar Kalmeta said on Thursday the government was implementing a zero tolerance policy towards corruption.

"The government is implementing a zero tolerance policy towards corruption and other anomalies," Kalmeta told reporters during his visit to the Gredelj railway manufacturer.

Asked to comment on his own position in the government after the announcements by Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor concerning the reshuffling of her cabinet and whether he had spoken with the PM since she returned from the United States, Kalmeta said he was not afraid for his position, adding that he, as a member of the Jadranka Kosor cabinet, was speaking to the prime minister almost on a daily basis.

Asked to comment on the assessments coming from the leading opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) that the leadership of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party was a criminal organisation, Kalmeta refuted such claims in the strongest terms as nonsense. He added the SDP should bring order to its own ranks.
