Croatian Parliament on Friday relieved Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) MPs Jadranka Kosor and Vladimir Seks of their duty as parliament deputy speakers and appointed another two HDZ deputies Zeljko Reiner and Tomislav Culjak to those posts.

Their replacement was moved by the HDZ after Kosor recently lost the intra-party elections for the HDZ leader.

A total of 124 deputies voted for Kosor to be relieved. Seven deputies abstained - Kosor, Seks and representatives of the regional HDSSB party.

A total of 126 deputies voted in favour of Seks's replacement and five abstained.

Culjak's appointment was support by 125 deputies (six abstained) and 126 deputies were in favour of Reiner's appointment (five abstained).

Deputies also endorsed an annual report on the preparedness of Croatia's Defence System, the implementation of staff policy and the overall situation in the national armed forces for 2011.

The parliament upheld the decision of the Credentials and Privileges Commission under which former Social Democratic Party Environmental Minister Mirela Holy would return to parliament on 19 June. The parliamentary mandate of her colleague Dan Spicer, who was Holy's substitute in parliament, will be terminated.
