The Croatian currency, the kuna, has gained against the euro and the US dollar since last week, but has further declined against the Swiss franc, by 0.46%, according to the Croatian National Bank (HNB) exchange rate on Monday.
The Swiss franc has reached a record-high mean exchange rate of 6.542419 to one kuna, dealing a new blow to Croatian citizens with nearly 30 billion kuna in loans (mostly housing and car loans) pegged to the Swiss franc.
The latest exchange rate of the Swiss franc is about 23% higher than last year, 36% higher than at this time in 2009 and nearly 50% higher than in early August 2008.
The euro exchange rate on Monday was 7.448544 kuna to one euro, the US dollar exchange rate was 5.160416 kuna to one dollar, and the British pound exchange rate was 8.483535 kuna to one pound.
