Interior Minister Ranko Ostojic has said that he cannot comment on the case of the alleged secret surveillance of Chief State Prosecutor Mladen Bajic and eight reporters, reportedly at the order of former chief police director Oliver Grbic.

"At this moment I do not possess any information which could make it possible for me to comment," Ostojic told reported after opening a conference on reducing disaster risks, in Zagreb on Thursday.

Asked by reporters whether he would launch a probe into the matter, he said the question should be referred to the police directorate.

According to Thursday's Novi List daily, former national police director Oliver Grbic issued an order last year before the parliamentary elections about the surveillance of State Prosecutor Bajic and eight journalists. The daily said that printouts of their telephone calls had been checked by the police and the formal reason for this operation was information leaks during an investigation into the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) regarding the party's involvement in the Fimi Media case.
