Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Sarajevo on Sunday for an official visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Abbas is expected to stay in Bosnia until Tuesday. On Monday he is scheduled to hold talks behind closed doors with members of the Bosnian collective Presidency and Foreign Minister Sven Alkalaj.
Bosnia is currently a nonpermanent member of the United Nations Security Council so it is assumed that Abbas and his hosts in Sarajevo would also address the situation in the Middle East, namely the Israeli-Palestine relations and announcements concerning a possible declaration of an independent Palestinian state which Israel strongly opposes.
This is Abbas's first visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
