Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic on Saturday congratulated Croatian citizens on Independence Day, which is observed on October 8.
The Croatian parliament declared independence 21 years ago, respecting the will of its citizens. We have not forgotten the painful war years that followed, just as we haven't forgotten gratitude to the defenders for the great victory won in an unequal battle. That victory is binding, Milanovic said in his message.
That victory does not allow for just any kind of state but a state worthy of all the sacrifices made to fulfil the centuries-long Croatian dream: Croatia, a country of work and order, equality before the law, a country of justice and economic stability in which one can live honourably from honest work, Milanovic said.
