The police are investigating the business operations of the Rijeka-based branch of the Croatia Osiguranje insurance company, and the investigation also covers the branch office's director Ivan Vanja Franciskovic and several other people, the Interior Ministry reported on Friday.
The ministry spokesman Krunoslav Borovec, however, declined to say why the investigation had been launched.
Some media have reported that Franciskovic and the others are suspected of syphoning between 30 million and 100 million kunas from that insurance company through fake damage claims in maritime accidents and accidents in the Viktor Lenac shipyard.
