Some employees of independent Radio 101, including those working part time staged a warning strike between 0800 and 1400 hours Monday, the journalists' trade union in charge of Radio 101 reported.

Radio 101 reporters reiterated that the radio's account has been blocked and that the last salary was paid out in November 2009. In stead of salaries, Radio 101 employees are receiving loans and the last loan was for April.

Health and pension insurance contributions have not since February 2009.

The Radio 101 management board said the strike was contary to the Labour act, therefore illegal.

The Croatian Journalists' Association (HND) issued a statement on Monday expressing their support for journalists and editors of the Zagreb independent radio station Radio 101, who had begun a warning strike in the morning.

The HND said that the strike was "legal and legitimate" because the radio's management were not meeting their commitments.

"We are shocked by the threats from Radio 101's CEO Drago Peric to the union representative and the journalists who had announced the strike that they would be given notice and reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office. The present management have failed to offer any concept of the future of Radio 101," the statement said.
