Real Madrid wrapped up top spot in Champions League Group D in emphatic fashion by thrashing Dinamo Zagreb 6-2 on Tuesday evening.

A weakend Real Madrid (Jose Mourinho rested Iker Casillas and Cristiano Ronaldo) stormed into a 3-0 lead over Dinamo inside nine minutes with goals from Karim Benzema, Jose Callejon and Gonzalo Higuain, and Mesut Ozil made it four before 20 minutes were up.

The Frenchman Benzema slotted home from Ozil's pullback after a swift passing move sliced open the visitors, and the former Real youth team forward Callejón finished off a swift break.

Higuain cut inside his marker and then dinked the ball over the keeper at his near post, before Germany's Ozil put away a loose ball after Higuain's shot had been parried.

Callejon broke the offside trap to slot away number five in the 49th and Benzema made it 6-0 on 66 minutes.

As the game eased off, Zagreb's Fatos Beqiraj scored Dinamo first in Europe this season with a header in the 81st and Ivan Tomecak bundled in a second at the death to deny Real a record Champions League win.

'You saw a hungry team,' the Real coach Mourinho said. 'Everyone came in charged up, Real gave Dinamo no chance. We started and smashed immediately.'

Real's unstopable victory canter made it five wins from five and put them seven points head of second-placed Ajax.

Dinamo are consigned to last place after failing to pick up a point.

Also on Tuesday, Lyon and Ajax played out the second 0-0 draw between the teams in the group stage.

The stalemate at Stade de Gerland leaves Ajax second with eight points, three points ahead of third-placed Lyon.

Ajax travel to Real on the final matchday, but boast a significantly better goal difference than the French club.

Lyon must record a big win away to Dinamo on December 7, and hope Ajax to share Dinamo destiny during their trip Madrid.
