On Sunday, for the fifth time since gaining independence, Slovenians will elect a president and all polls indicate that he will be elected in a round-off three weeks later.
Three candidates are running for office - incumbent President Danilo Tuerk (60), an independent candidate supported by citizens as well as the strongest opposition party, Zoran Jankovic's Positive Slovenia; former Prime Minister Borut Pahor (49), who is supported by the Social Democrats and Parliament Speaker Gregor Virant's Civic List; and Milan Zver (50), the candidate of Prime Minister Janez Jansa's Slovenian Democratic Party and the New Slovenia party.
