The State Election Commission said on Monday it would decide on the validity of the HDSSB party's slate, to be headed by war crimes convict Branimir Glavas, after the upcoming parliamentary election was called and slates were submitted.

The Commission said it had received a number of queries regarding Glavas as head of the HDSSB slate, but reminded that, under the law on the election of MPs, it must receive slates within a fortnight of the day when elections were called and within the following 48 hours decide whether all slates were valid.

The HDSSB Main Committee unanimously decided yesterday that Glavas will head its slates in constituencies nos. four and five, which respectively cover Virovitica-Podravina and Osijek-Baranja, and Pozega-Slavonia, Brod-Posavina and Vukovar-Srijem counties. HDSSB president Vladimir Sisljagic said this party did not recognise the "politically rigged" sentence against Glavas, who is serving eight years in prison for war crimes committed in Osijek, eastern Croatia in 1991.

PM Kosor said today it was illegal that Glavas should head the HDSSB slates, as this party did not respect the judicial authority, and that Glavas's nomination to head the slates should be addressed by the State Election Commission, which is headed by the president of the Supreme Court.
