The Supreme Court on Monday quashed the ruling in the case of former chairwoman of the parliamentary Conflict of Interest Commission and university professor Desa Mlikotin-Tomic and another 18 professors, mediators and students for selling examinations at Zagreb's Economic Faculty.

The court quashed the ruling because of violations of the Criminal Procedures Act and ordered that the case be referred back to the Zagreb County Court for a re-trial.

Of the 19 persons who were found guilty, five were given unconditional prison terms, while the remaining 14 received suspended sentences ranging from six to 20 months, with probation ranging from one to four years.

Mlikotin-Tomic was sentenced to 14 months in prison for abuse of office and bribe taking and was banned from lecturing at the university for three years.
