As one of the most important tourist destinations in the Mediterranean, Croatia boasts a long-standing tradition in tourism. Each Croatian tourist region has shaped its specific offerings in line with global trends and local tradition.
Croatia'shistory dates back thousands of years with many historic buildings from thefirst decade perfectly preserved. There are numerous cultural and historicalmonuments in Croatia, such as the ancient amphitheatre in Pula, the palace ofthe Emperor Diocletian in Split (under UNESCO protection), the Romanesquecities of Krk, Rab, Pag, Koreula and Trogir, Dubrovnik, a 13th century citywith excellently preserved Renaissance towers and walls, which is also underUNESCO protection, one of Europe's first public theatres in Hvar, the basilicaof Euphrasius' in Poree, the preromanesque church of St. Donat in Zadar,Šibenik cathedral, and many others.
In thecontinental part of Croatia, there are some 50 medieval castles, as well aspicturesque cities and towns, such as Varaždin, where acclaimed baroqueconcerts are held. The capital city, Zagreb, over 900 years old, is adorned bythe medieval Upper Town and has numerous places of worship, museums andtheatres.
Croatia alsohas eight national parks, including the Plitvice Lakes (a UNESCO world heritagesite since 1949), Paklenica and Risnjak in the continental region. And theKornati archipelago, Brijuni, the Krka river and the wooded Adriatic island ofMljet are other national parks found in the coastal region. There are anadditional six natural parks: the Kopaeki rit (marshlands), Medvednica,Velebit, Biokovo, Telašeica, Lonjsko polje, Vransko lake, Papuk, Ueka andŽumberak.

Nautic Tourism - Marinas
Berth Feesin Marinas
Fees arecharged in Croatian marinas for yacht berths and other services. They areusually fixed and published in the autumn for the following year.
Mooring Feesin Public Harbours
On public piers in harbours under municipal authority, the local authoritieshave the right to charge mooring fees. The amount of the fee depends on thesize of the yacht and the length of pier it occupies, which means that yachtsmooring alongside the pier will pay more than those mooring stern of bows to.When berthing "in a pack" (several yachts mooring alongside eachother), the mooring fee is charged for every yacht. The amount of the fee isdetermined by the local authority can vary from one harbour to another.
Berth Feesin Bays
In someareas, the local authorities charge mooring fees for yachts moored in baysunder their authority. In return, garbage is collected and, in some places, groceries delivered. Law will in future regulate the extent to which fees canbe charged without any service being provided. Persons collecting mooring feesmust identify themselves by producing a printed receipt.
Buying Food
Shopping forfood presents no problems along the Croatian coast or on the islands. Allmarinas and harbour have well-supplied supermarkets. However, during prolongedspells of bad weather there can be a shortage of fresh vegetables and bread onsmall islands, which do not have a regular ferry service. Food prices are comparableto those in Europe. Restaurants can be more expensive on small islands.
Fuel
Fuel iseasily available both on roads and in harbours. All types of petrol, includingunleaded petrol, and diesel are available; however, unleaded petrol pumps andless common on piers. Petrol stations are temporarily closed for safety reasonswhen they are being supplied with petrol from tankers.
Water andElectricity in Marinas
All Croatianmarinas and some harbours have water and electricity hook-ups on the pontoon-piers.Water: water connections are usually 1 inch in diameter, 3 inch diameterconnections are much less common. Because of possible water shortages in thesummer months, most Croatian marinas require yachts to use hoses with taps.
Electricity:In Croatia the current is 220 V AC. In marinas and public harbours (as well ascamping grounds), three-pin "Euro-plugs" are used. In some marinas(Punat, Kremik) a number of pillars have 'conventional' safety sockets.
